Over the past couple of months I worked super hard on an exciting project by BellaNaija, sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation 2021 Goalkeepers Report. Whenever I get a chance to be amplify or celebrate the stories of amazing Africans, I always jump at it. The decision to join this project as the Implementation Consultant was an easy one for me to make. BellaNaija and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation 2021 Goalkeepers Report are taking you on a journey to see how Africans are solving the social, financial, and health problems of the continent with resilience and determination. These are stories of some innovative Africans blazing trails for a better continent. There are three amazing stories so far; One Nigerian entrepreneur has transformed over 60,000 tyres into beautiful products with the aim of recycling scrap tyres, another Nigerian entrepreneur’s unique innovation is harnessing solar power to create cold room storage for rural farmers for as low as 100 Naira, and a Burkina Faso computer scientist is building eco-friendly houses using red soil converted to bricks.
In 2018/19 I came up with a beloved cartoon character that ran for a few years on social media called Lil Bella. Relatable and positive, it was the first of its kind for a Nigerian media company. Lil Bella was a daily motivational cartoon character on BellaNaija and she sought out to inspire, and motivate readers by tapping into pop culture references as well as the BellaNaija team. The imagery for this cartoon character was done by the BellaNaija design team.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, there was a lot of confusion around content creation and consumption - in addition to the chaos that hit the world in general. Seeing an opportunity to connect even more with people virtually, the #AtHomeWithBN Live series was born. It consisted of a weekly schedule of live sessions and included motivational sessions, gym sessions, cooking sessions, health sessions, and many more which were carried out by industry experts on the BellaNaija platform.
While at BellaNaija, I created several content formats for the popular Big Brother Naija reality TV show. This ranged from interviews with evicted housemates ("10 Questions With..."), to having the housemates react to tweets and comments from fans ("Tweet Reactions"), and recap shows with leading entertainment industry experts, and more interesting shows.
This was a much-loved column on BellaNaija, which was introduced in 2017. It came to an end in 2021 after showcasing 200 films. The series featured Nigerian full-length films for film-loving BNers. From throwback movies, new movies, Yoruba movies, Igbo movies, Hausa movies, English movies, Short films, Serials and so much more.
Created to merge the world of pop culture and entrepreneurship, this Live series featured African pop stars that also ran their own businesses - from clothing brands to record labels. This series was created for the Tony Elumelu Foundation.
